When you get tired of the shells, the beach scenes and the mountain views, it's time to switch to a deinspirational poster. Being dramatic and serious all the time can get really boring.
For every winner, there are dozens of losers. Odds are you'll be one of them.
That phrase is found beneath the title "Defeat." If it makes you laugh or smile, then the poster has done what it was meant to do.
Some of the de-inspirational posters do include majestic scenery. It's not until you get close enough to read the fine print that you recognize the difference.
Picture a girl standing on a mountaintop, gazing off into the distance. She is so high that the clouds are beneath her. It's quite a relaxing view. What does the caption say? Procrastination ... hard work often pays off after time, but laziness always pays off now!
Take a break and get some rest before you climb your next mountain. The mountain will still be there tomorrow and the next day.
We are told that procrastination is a bad thing. Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today,
said Thomas Jefferson. But why not put things on hold for a little while? Many people never take the time to just sit down and watch the grass grow. They suffer from health problems due to stress as a result. Deinspirational posters are stress-reduction aids. Anything that makes you laugh reduces the stress in your body. It causes the production of melatonin and other hormones that work against the stress hormone cortisol.
When people lived in jungles and constantly had to be on the lookout for wild animals, they needed cortisol. The body of modern man still produces the hormone. It's what gets your heart pumping if you need to run away from a bear.
But we simply don't need as much cortisol as we once did. Some scientists say that it is one of the things that keep us fat. So, maybe deinspirational posters could be weight loss aids.
There is another good thing about procrastination. Thomas Jefferson's vice-president Aaron Burr recognized it. He said, Never do today what you can put off till tomorrow. Delay may give clearer light as to what is best to be done.
Of course, Burr didn't seem to take his own advice about premature actions. He is better known for killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel than for being vice-president of the United States.
Our advice is to procrastinate a little and enjoy your life more. A deinspirational poster might help you do that.
