Are you looking for an uninspirational poster? Trekkies are fond of one featuring Spock and Captain Kirk. The caption reads, Continuity, we're going to pretend this never happened.
It causes them to chuckle.
The original Star Trek series was cancelled in the third season, a big mistake for NBC. The show was highly profitable for advertisers according to marketing research done after the fact. Gene Rodenberry reduced his involvement in the series, so there was no "continuity" and NBC seemed as though they were going to pretend the whole thing never happened.
Non-trekkies get a kick out of a different image. Beneath a photo of three teens dressed in Star Trek garb is the caption, Star Trek Fans, because sex is overrated.
That line brings a smile to practically everyone's face.
Some people might be offended. That's one thing you have to consider before you hang any of the latest uninspirational posters on your office wall. The sayings and the pictures are not always "PC." Although many people are learning to laugh at themselves, there will always be a few who just do not have a sense of humor, or, at least, their sense of humor is not exactly like your own.
Some people don't appreciate sarcasm. The first recorded reference to sarcasm was negative. The writer, an English poet named Edmund Spenser, felt that sarcastic individuals were rude and lacked skills grounded on learning and judgment.
That statement was made in the 15th century. If nothing else, most of us have become more tolerant of other peoples' senses of humor. To many of us, sarcasm is funny, although, to be honest, it is usually a bit rude.
It's really all about being happy. What puts a smile on your face?
Researchers have shown that laughing is good for you. Your body produces bio-chemicals that speed healing and boost the immune system.
While it is more difficult to prove, a number of scientists believe that having a positive attitude (being happy, smiling, etc.) acts like a magnet to bring positive "good" things to you. It may sound magical and mystical, but if you try smiling all day, you will notice a difference in how other people react to you. Uninspirational posters might be the keys that keep you smiling.
Who was responsible for the original inspirational poster? It's hard to say. He or she might not be amused by an uninspirational poster. All you can say is to each his own.
